Our Busy Weekend

Hi everyone,

We had a very busy weekend. Saturday morning we ran. Since I am training for the 1/2 marathon, I had to get a long run in. So Saturday morning we got up and met our friends for our weekly run. We went to Shelley Lake. It is a 2 mile loop and I actually did it 5 times. Tom was able to do 6 miles before his feet gave out. There was a nice guy going the opposite of me so everytime I saw him, he smiled and encouraged me. It seems like I am a member of a special club now. About 3 1/2 times around, Fruitcakes by Jimmy Buffett came on my MP3 player and I thought this was the right song for what I was doing. I was a little sore, but not too bad. I think I will be able to do the 1/2 marathon after all.

Saturday afternoon, Tom and I went to the BikeFest downtwon. We walked around and looked at all the bikes that were parked and on display. It was fun even though it seems there were not as many bikes this year as last year. We saw Dee, a lady from the Y. It was nice to see her. She is a very nice lady who always has a smile on her face. That night, I had a girls night out. Tara and I went to see Nights in Rodanthe and then we went to the Ale House and had some nachos and a glass of wine. It was nice to spend some time with her. We hope to catch more chick flicks in the future. It is hard for her to get out with the little ones.

Sunday, we went to the Carrboro music festival. The town of Carrboro is right outside Chapel Hill. It is a very liberal town, so there were lots of Obama supporters. I even took a picture of Mamas for Obama, who were having a bake sale. We met Don and Scherri over there. We had lunch and then walked around and listened to the music. The town had stages set up all over. It was nice to walk around from stage to stage and listen to the music. It was a beautiful day. I love Fall, because the weather is so nice, but after Fall comes Winter which I am not that thrilled with.

Brewgrass Festival 2008

Hi everyone,

We had a great time this weekend. Tom, myself, Melissa and Josh went to the Brewgrass Festival in Asheville, NC. Asheville is a nice town about 3 and 1/2 hrs west of us. It is home of the Biltmore House. Each year they have their Brewgrass Festival. It is a chance to drink some good beer and listen to some good Bluegrass Music. As you can see from the pictures, we had a good time. Asheville has some good brewers, such as Highland and French Broad. It was a beautiful day with the temps in the 70s. We like it better than the International Beer festival in Durham because it is smaller and 7 hrs. It was nice to be able to walk around and talk to the brewers. The Durham festival is 4 hrs. and very crowded. Hopefully we will ge to go again next year.

Am I crazy or what?

Hi everyone,

On Sunday I did something crazy. I signed up for the 1/2 Marathon here in Raleigh. Tom and I ran 7 miles with some friends on Sunday morning. I have never run that far. The 7 miles were challenging, but we both did it. I did better than I thought and I actually enjoyed it. Someone told me that the endorphins kick in at 5 miles. I believe them. I figured if I could do 1/2 of a 1/2 Marathon, I can do the 13.1. I am little concerned about training. I have not been feeling well this week because of sinuses and work has kept me busy. Wish me luck!

This Sunday we are running the Hurricanes 5k or as we like to call it the Pancake run. It is a 5k around the RBC center then they make you pancakes. You can also win prizes and autographed items from the Carolina Hurricanes Hockey team. It should be fun, we had a blast last year.

We are the champions!

Hi,

This weekend I was privileged to take part in a very special event. It started as a casual comment by my friend Lisa. She mentioned that the she wanted to do the Charlottesville 4 miler. I told her if she was serious and trained I would do it with her. Lisa took me up on the offer. She trained diligently, by getting up at 5 in the morning to run. Well all that hard work paid off. On August 30th, our 11th Wedding anniversary, Lisa and I set out with 2,998 other women. The event was inspiring. There were women of every age, shape and size. People were running or walking for the UVA Breast Cancer Center. It was very humbling to see all the signs for those who were walking for their grandmothers, mothers, sisters, etc.. who were stricken with this cancer. Lisa was a trooper. Words can't descirbe how proud I am of her. She pushed through her fatigue and finished the race. We finished at 55:25, which was 10 minutes better than her training time. I cheerleaded her on. I reminded her how proud her family would be when she finished. I was right! Her kids gave us the biggest hugs and let us know how proud they were of us. We held hands at the end, because her daughter asked us to. Lisa did great and we are looking forward to doing it again next year.

Our anniversary was great. We went to a seafood restaurant with Tom's parents and Lisa, Mike, Jordan and Drew. I can't believe we have been married this long. I feel blessed to have a great husband, who makes me laugh and has seen me through some tough times.
